Tips for faster indexingYou may have seen our blog, “SEO Items You Can Fix if You’re on a Budget“, where we discuss some items you can do yourself to help get your site indexed- showing up on google search results pages also know as “SERPS” (Search Engine Results Pages). Today we want to share with you some tips on how to get Indexed faster! The number one question we get from clients is “how long till I start showing up on google” well…that depends. So what can you do you ask? Here is a quick to do list.

1. Establish a blog.

Oh yeah I heard the sigh. Its ok we post information on how to make your life easier with both blogs and social media (see post Tips for Simplifying Social Media Marketing for Businesses.) Content is most important today, include keywords- keep it all on topic.

Blogging is an important part of your SEO strategy and has a big impact on getting your site indexed. Its important to continue to post new and relevant content that will be of benefit to your audience.

2. Robot.txt

We talk about this a lot when give tips on SEO. We may also be heard calling items such as this “server documents.” These are items we place on the server with the files of your website as they provide information to search bots.  The robot.txt file provides search engine spiders (crawlers, robots) with information on which page they are actually allowed to look at (crawl) and index. If you are not familiar with how to write this particular file, it is best to have someone who does write if for you. If it is not set up properly it can cause issues. 3. Sitemap.xml

A sitemap.xml is a list of pages on your website. It helps the search engines to be able to see changes and it informs them on how frequently to look for updates. If you use wordpress, you will want to install the XML sitemaps plugin. Its an easy tool to use and its settings will provide you with resources you need to automate the plugin to generate new sitemaps on intervals. If you are not using wordpress you will want to set a schedule to create new sitemaps from time to time. This process will not get you indexed immediately but it will be a huge help in assisting the process.

4. Submit your blog to blog directories.

By submitting your blog to blog directories you will surely speed up the index rate. You do want to be careful and sure to only list in top ranking blog directories. You can do searches for Top Ranking blog directories and top ranking rss feeds. Find the best spots and submit your blog.

5. Keep your Social Media accounts up to date.

Its important to not only fill out all the about information on your Facebook business page, twitter account, youTube, instagram etc., but to keep your posts current. Make sure your posts have (relevant) links to your website and hashtags that are relevant to searches people are using. If you create a new page on your website write a post about the content and link to it. Write engaging posts that will inspire your client base to link, comment and share. Google does track social signals and it will certainly help to get your site indexed faster.
